Impromptu Weekend Activity : Penang Interactive Museum

After our bi-weekly outing to Occupy Beach Street event, I had an impromptu suggestion to visit the Penang Interactive Museum. DH said ok and so here we are. It's located opposite QE2, beside Via Pre. Entrance fees for myKad holders (Adult) is RM15, children below 2 - Free of charge.

On the way in, there are some 3D art available for visitors to capture some pictures too.

You can also catch up with Penang's Chief Minister over a glass of coffee, before you purchase your tickets.

Upon entrance, we are so glad to be in an air-conditioned room. With the scorching weather outside, being inside is really nice! The visit began with miniature sculptures about Penang's heritage.

Then, we head on up to the 2nd floor, where the real fun is! :) We started fooling around with the 3D arts capturing pictures with just our phone. If you wish to visit this museum, having a camera is a MUST! We didn't manage to capture all the arts as Lucas was running here and there and we had a hard time catching up with him. 

Well, I will let the pictures do the talking. 

The funniest moment we had was with the 3D spiderman art. Lucas had some funny poses with daddy as the crowd in line laughed as well.

Second time with mummy, he sort of got the idea...

There was also some facial scanning software, which changes your face on screen. I think it kinda spook Lucas out.

That's all from our really short visit to the museum. It was definitely an enjoyable one. Do visit the museum with your friends and family for some 3D fun!

Lucas at 2Years 2months

It's not a secret that handling two year olds can be a bitter sweet experience. It's great that they are starting to understand us, able to do certain things independently, but it also means, they are opinionated, they are curious all the time, they definitely love to test your patience & anger. This proves to be true as I am now a mother of a two year old toddler. Everyday, he test my ability to balance between too stringent & too lenient.

Somedays, he's an angel and an obedient little boy. He will do his own thing & play on his own when I am busy with my work. He now knows how to make imaginary tracks for his trains and cars. He enjoys fixing his own train with his duplo set. That's how he occupies himself.

He's still very much an attention seeker. He still breaks his toys and come to me so I fix them for him. 

He loves to dance & make funny movements so everyone pays attention to him :)

Somedays, he doesn't get things his way and he will scream, or roll on the floor and drives me up the wall. Just like in this picture,  he's crying because he wanted to hold the camera. I captured his cranky look anyways so in the future I can tell him how naughty he was. :D

He's afraid of other kids. He hides behind me or tries to hideaway when we ask him to play with other kids. We tried to take a picture of him and Abigail but he slowly slides away. LOL.

He finally stays put for a minute or two and I manage to get a quick capture of them :)

He's also beginning to show signs of jealousy. When mummy hugs daddy or when daddy kisses mummy, he will make a pouty face, until we kiss or hug him too.  When I carried Abigail, during a group photo session, you can see Lucas whining away because he didn't want me to carry Abby.

His recently acquired skill is Posing for the Camera! Boy, has he got some moves. 

Making faces during selfies is also his thing now :D

He also takes some good photographs of me with the phone sometimes. Not too bad eh... Me and the Taipei 101.

I know deep inside he adores us without questions asked.

And we love him to bits too! XOXO

Book Review : The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

I knew about this book a few years back when my friend, Shu-yin, blogged about it. Sometimes, I go to a bookstore, I'm so overwhelm with the amount of books there, I don't know what or rather which book to choose. I have been looking for this particular book for sometime now, but I couldn't find it in MPH or Popular bookstores. One day, my husband came back with the box set. He saw it at Borders and bought it for Lucas. :) The box set includes a board book & a caterpillar soft toy. As the size is not too big/heavy, it's easy for me to bring it out (without the box of course) >.<

So what is the fuss about this caterpillar. In a nutshell, this board book is about a hungry caterpillar, who ate & ate & ate and it finally grew into a Butterfly... Well, that's pretty much a very compact summary of it. Haha. But seriously, that's not all this book is about, you might think! It was definitely more than just a caterpillar eating through the pages...  

This bright coloured illustrated book teaches children to identify different types of fruits & food, Counting, Colours, Days of the week (from Monday - Sunday), eating habits, how eating too much junk food can give you a stomachache & how eating nutritious food can make one Grow. Finally, of course, how a caterpillar grows to be a beautiful butterfly. Pretty Pack huh? I guess that makes it so popular among the parents. :)

Not only that, it has holes in on each fruit & this encourages interaction when I'm reading to Lucas. He loves poking his fingers in.

Sometimes, he uses his caterpillar plush toy and goes "nom nom nom" showing the caterpillar eating the fruits.

That pretty much sums up about this little book. If you ever bring one home, I hope you enjoy reading it to your children as much as I do. :)

Party Lorong

Putting aside my Taiwan Travel blogpost, I would like to blog about something more recent. Last weekend, in the centre of Georgetown, there was a rather hidden part of town, Off Hutton Lane, an art market was held. The event called "Party Lorong" was organised by Chai Diam Ma & Soda Fountain. Of course, just as it's name suggested, this event was held, at the what we locals call, a "lorong kia" (small lane) amongst quaint houses (which honestly, I, as a Penangnite, never knew it existed).

As the organisers are very much artist themselves, we anticipated the event to be very artsy... True enough, the stalls participating in the event are by our talented local artists. From professional illustrators to craft makers, if you are looking for something unique, this is the place to be :)

I truly respect the patience of this "paper marche" artist. Mind you the tiny pieces of paper you see in the picture below, are hand cut by him... @.@ As you can see the horses were made by this tiny pieces of paper... 

The market had arts, hand sewn teddy bears, preloved items, used books, upcycled bags...

Then, there was an arrow indicating us to enter one of the houses. (Sorry I forgot to take a picture of it as it was quite crowded). Anyways, it lead us to the backyard of the house, where there was a whole different Party going on... It's where the food is! A band was performing while we were there.

Mom's home cooked food seems to be selling like hot cakes.

It was a very hot day, so Alex had some "non acidic" coffee WITH ICE, by Organo.

Flower Candy floss was a hit with children. There were also pastries, homemade ice-cream, hotdogs, pizza and more.

We hang out for a bit and left. What a hot hot day but we had great fun nonetheless. Hope there will be more art markets like this in the future ;)
